The Most Serene Republic of Venice

Hi Guys,

Venice was our day three destination and although the weather wasn’t completely on our side I have to admit that just added to the charm of the city.

Do not trust the rumors you hear about Venice (perhaps only trust the good ones) – I found that although the city was entirely made up of canals, there was no unpleasant smells. Perhaps because it wasn’t high season yet and temperatures were around 17 degrees Celsius, but nonetheless.

As you guessed, one day in Venice is nowhere near enough, therefore I am not even going to pretend I crammed many museums or cultural exhibitions over those precious 10 hours. When planning my day there I knew with the limited time I have it would not be a wise idea to spend it all in queues. So I ditched the entire travel agenda and spent my day strolling about the city and its charming bridges. And I not regret it.

As such, I don’t have too many recommendations – but here’s the ones that are really worth your time regardless of how long you’re visiting for:

  • Food: Taverna Scalinetto – Their Fisherman’s Pasta is to die for. You can also book a table through TripAdvisor.

  • Place: T Fondaco dei Tedeschi by DFS (Shopping Centre) – Bear with me. I am not insisting your go shopping (although, not such a bad idea). This place has THE BEST view of Venice and is completely FREE - top floor terrace is a bird eye view of Venetian rooftops. The only requirement being that you need to register in a pre-booked slot. You’re welcome.

And yes, although Venice is sinking – about 23cm in the last century, there’s a different growing concern they also need to battle - rising sea levels.
